This morning's Race

Postby Shaper on Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:23 pm

I really enjoyed myself this morning. Hope you all out run had a great time too. Congratulations to all the top ten winners in both the categories.

Note to the organisers:
thought that the start point was a tad too crowded for comfort. I think the organisers should organise another collection point for the runner's bib next year and not just Marina Square. Too many people at one single collection point. And Marina Square not exactly that convenient for a lot of people. Not so close to MRT station.

actually, i only enjoy the vitagen, the bag (not including the products) and the company of my friends and the boi bois supporting us...

i dun like the run cos its so hot and humid... i can't have walk break cos its not long enough like a marathon which i can take my own sweet time... and i hate the queue absolutely... and gosh, they are so far away!!!

on your point about the start point being too crowded, well, i find that it is extremely spacious... as compare to army half marathon or scsm... having at marina square is okie... i think its pretty close to the city hall mrt... certainly the distance is less than what we did today... the 10km and 5km runs... :p BUT, the organiser need to know how to improve the system... e.g. email us the bib number so that we can queue for the bib according to the numbers e.g. 1-1000 lane 1, 1001-2000 lane 2 etc... another way would be to queue according to 1st alphabet of surname... this is some of the US races are being organised... :)

I enjoyed the run but not the queuing...Had to practically q for everything...bib, tee, vitagen+marigold, goodie bag....When i reached Marina Square & saw the q, i nearly fainted. No choice but to join the long long q but was urshered by a guy to another booth (but i tot dats the same one i was queuing for in the first place) & managed to get the goodie bag pretty quickly.

The run itself was alrite...But the water station was in a mess. The young boys manning the stations werent fast enuf & keep talking & joking among themselves while we have to wait for water.

yah! i enjoyed the run too!! this is my first time running for such events.. hee.. i believe i will still join such runs in future.. but the queuing part was tiring.. even more tiring than the run.. to think tat after a long run, we still have to queue for basically EVERYTHING...

from collecting bib.. to vitagen.. to runner kit.. and placing/collecting of baggage was especially a mess! the ppl there din arrange the bags according to numbers even though they had separated the queues according to our bib numbers.. when we collect, we hv to describe the bag and then the ppl at the counters cant even get the rite bag.. waste of time.. :?

The run was alright. But I wish it had started earlier like 7am so we can beat the heat. (I am no Vivian/Victoria, I take at least 1hr to do a 10km run)

I think the 5km runners should start at least 15mins after the 10km runners. Because when the fast 5km runners reach the U-turn point, it is crowded with the 10km runners that really inconvenient those fast 5km runners who r trying to grab the top spots.

The queuing was a nightmare. If the organisers timed the runs such that basically all the runners finish within the hr (800-930), they should deploy more ppl at all the stations (ie. end point drink station, goodie bag etc) I mean we are talking about 6000 ppl here.

Anyway, I would just like to thank SHAPE for organising this. Not so easy organising an event involving 6000 participants.

S@#$, it really shocked me to death if not my thirst after run my 10Km sub 1hr. I expected to grab drinks after the finishing line, and H@# S@#$$, I have to Q for drink ??????????????????????? yea...yea........I know the organiser will put the blame on me because I DID NOT DRINK DURING MY 10KM RUN, I DRINK ONLY AFTER I COMPLETED MY 10KM, EVEN FOR MY 10KM TRAINING I NEVER DRINK IN BETWEEN.

I saw the Q for drink, Q for What VITAGEN (S@###, its value only SGD 2.40 ????) .

WHAT I WANT IS DRINK AFTER MY 10KM instanly at the finishin line, like my 2006 standchart, please.

I know!! When I finished my run, I went straight to get my bag (I ran 10K so no q there). Then went to q for vitagen. When I saw the q for Pocari, I just gave up and drank the vitagen instead.

lucky for me i went to collect the goodie bag straight after my run so there was only a short queue as i saw a long queue at the drinks and vitagen stations. I thot the run was enjoyable but could have started at 7am to beat the heat and the running route was actually less than 10k according to my pedometer...just my 2cts worth :)

Maybe I finished relatively earlier but I thought the Q system at the end was actually quite ok. I mean, its systematic...Altho I agree, water should be provided freely at the end point..grab and go kinda thing.

Anyway, the run was great. Being my first, it sure has got me riled up for more runs. :) I think ive found my new hobby! Running!

Anyway, just my two cents worth : I was a bit dissappointed with the location of the drinking point at the 5k turning point area. I mean the road is quite narrow...then you put the drinking pt there and people crowd around the area..and ppl who are trying to maintain their pace get blocked. It was a bit frustrating for me at least.

And I know there's another thread entirely dedicated to the runner's tee saga. Perhaps the organisers should really look into that. Mine's still wrapped in plastic and untouched. So heh, if the org suddenly want to recall ill-fitting ones, I'll be waiting. :P

Oh! Does anyone know whats the link that would direct us to the photograph of each runner..I vaguely remember something about how each of us can access a photo of ourself at some website by keying in our bib no on the 14th of sept...

Hi, same here. I did not drink during my 10km run too, and i drink only after i completed my 10km, even for my 10km training, i never drink in between too.

There is no loo station in the entire 10km run, don't expect anyone who is in emergency to go into the bushes or behind the bus stops, the foreign workers are everywhere since the worksites are nearby.

The queue for the goody bags is far too long. There should be enough manpower to mend the counters. Are these volunteers who mend the counters for bib collection, goody bags, baggage collection....etc.? Are they trained or briefed properly?

Hope the organisers will improve in this next year.

Dear organiser/s,

Please,

1. only 1 (one) Q for the bib, timing device, goodies bag and other goodies sponsorship. (I like Standchart system, 1 Q)

2. prepare water booth near the finishing line and be grabed freely and immediately (i also like standchart system, where I grabbed 2 bottles for 500ml minerals water, hmmm.... maybe all because of the costs, I understand that, but you cannt make runners to Q after 10km sub 1hr for drinks. ) YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS SEARCHING FOR TOILET TO DRINK FROM THE TAP. YES..............you maybe disgusted, but I have not choice but to drink from toilet tap water, which I DID YESTERDAY AFTER RUN, LUCKY ME IN SINGPORE to be able to drink from toiled tap water)

3. to be continued...........

Ur comment is exactly the same as my colleagues. They all ran the 10km & all dying of thirst but the q for water is like.... They had no $ with them so they had no choice but to q...when its their turn, they juz grabbed alot at once....

They dun have to do any other things rite? *scratch head*
