All, i totally agree this run is badly communicated. This is the first time i'm doing this run and had done runs like GE and Std chartered. They all sent an email or sms 2 weeks or few days before the date of collection pack to remind the participant. Although the 'confirmation' indicated to collect the pack - but if you registered 3 months ago. Who will remember?

Even if it's the responsibility of the participant - the least the organizer can do is to respond to phone calls and emails. Not only do i get rude receptionist but was also not able to get through to talking to any organizers. ( Now i know why SPH doesn't get good stories becos of these rude receptionists and SPH employees don't return calls!)

The best thing all of us can do (and I'm going to do it) is to show up for the run! I'm going to run w/o the bib. If they want to pull us out, we have evidence to show that we had paid for it but just couldn't collect the pack and when we tried to contact the organizers, no one entertained us.

The other thing we can do is to write in to TODAY - they are not part of SPH so they'll LOVE a really good story like this.

If you want to 'protest' it - join me in the run without the bib and t-shirt! :D And if they want to pull you out of the race, you know TODAY will have really good stories to tell on Monday.

See you all on sunday. (P.s - i'll still be calling Vicky, Lai Fong and Agnes - event organizers for my race pack -- afterall i paid for it!)

oh wow i just received an sms @11pm that i'd called SPH and 'regret' that they cannot issue the pack after the collection date.

Hmmm if they can send an SMS via SPH, why can't they send a reminder???!??!

Still, i'm going to run the race - no one can stop me.

wa...wa...wa...surprise surprise. one week ago, there were hardly people coming in to post msg, though many probably choose to juz read the posts. suddenly this week, after the long awaited collection date, msg increase tremedously. so many people chance upon then they reach this forum, why din the chance comeby a week earlier, then the collection date would be missed!! what a way to blame the organiser for not sending reminder. then i wonder how did the registration close within 9 days. nvr ever happened to any race b4....even anlene orchard mile whose participants is half of shape run, registration is still possible on the run day itself. how many ladies out there regretting that they did not register in time and yet those who manage to sign up could be bothered...

i do agree with those who sign up at roadshow that oganiser should take more responsibilty to ensure participant receive their confirmation slip. organiser should know what they issue to us during sign up. i paid by credit card, manage to have the standard payment slip of credit card + a print out receipt that looks like those issued by provision shop in my neighbourhood. At least i would have the credit card bill to proof my transcation had been successful, those pay by cash, i don know what they get as 'proof of payment'. it would be unfair if one had paid and if organiser lost the registration form and insist you did not register. I would suggest organiser to issue an oficial receipt in future for those who sign up at roadshow. collected mizuno wave run race pack today with only an official receipt, which carry non of my particular on it, + my ic. easy and simple. mizuno did not send any reminder either.

anyway goodluck to those who manage to pester the organise to at least give u the goody bag.

Most of us are working professional who spend our time traveling and working - so don't have that much time luxury as some people. And if you don't hear anything from the sponsors - of course you checked the website -DUH!

Regardless, we can still run the race for the fact that we paid and registered for it. Happy running.

Disapppointed

Postby evelynkf on Sat Jul 19, 2008 10:27 am

I've taken part in so many races and I must admit that this is my first time that I've forgotten to collect my race pack.

I was wondering how come there is no notice to collect the race pack and only found out it was stated on the confirmation slip on tueday night. Thereafter I emailed the organiser (only email given for enquiries) to asked how I could get my race pack. They replied:

Hi,

Please come down on 16th July 2008 to the following address to collect your bib and runner’s tee:

3, Champions Way,
Singapore Sports School
Blk 1, #01-10
S(737912)

Time: 9am – 8pm

Thank you.

Regards,
Shape Run 08

on the same night which I only read it the next day. Was too caught up with work and I asked if I can come down the next day (thursday) to collect it. But received no reply. I sent another email to them that my brother will be heeding down to collect for me. No reply. He went down on thursday but it was closed.

Then I rushed down on friday only to find out from Singapore Atheletics that the people have left. Cannot help. U can go complain to the forum etc. My main purpose is how I can get hold of the organiser contacts but the attitude showered on me was really bad. The most the organiser could do (added value service) is to reserve my race pack at SAA since they noticed my first email.

I've joined SHAPE RUN since it first started and I'm an avid runner. I even commented that SHAPE RUN is (may be not anymore) the most organised race that I've taken part in (to my friends since it first started) Wanted to collect all the jerseys and also the number tag (I collect all my races number tag). Now, my money is gone, I cant race and I cant even get back my jersey and number tag.

To the people who managed to collect their race pack, I do understand that it is our responsibility to check and collect the race pack on time but you too must understand how the other racers who didnt manage to collect the racepack on time. We dont wish for this to happen too. From the email reply, the signal didnt sent to me that Wednesday was the ONLY addidtional day to collect the race pack and I only found out that there is a forum when the SAA personnel said.

I never felt so disappointed with any race organiser before and I dont wish for SHAPE RUN 08 to be the first. All I'm hoping for is to at least get back my jersey and number tag... even if is after the race.

I hope the Organiser reads this and get back to me.

Praying hard. ***

And I want to add the point that, if they are able to send out spammish adverts via emails and sms, I dont see why they cant send out useful reminders.

Say its too costly to send sms reminders to all those who forgot.
So is it also too costly to send email reminders in advance?

Also, from Carnival records, they should be able to assess how many participants had not yet collected their packs. Im sure the participants of this discussion are only a small minority of those who forgot their collection over the duration of the Carnival. How about those who did not access the forum and thus did not realise the forum stated the 2nd collection details?

In my case, I had emailed the organizers to enquire if was possible to collect my pack since I had forgotten it the first time. They hadnt managed to reply me to date. It was only yesterday that I had some free time from work and was hence able to do some research on the Shape 08 site for alternative collection possibilities.

I had also made a call to the Shape contact and had asked for the reason why participants who forgotten werent given a 2nd chance to collect it. She replied that the 2nd chance was given on 16th for those who forgot. Now, how is that the 2nd chance if people werent aware that the details were actually posted on forum?

I need an explanation on why the 2nd collection details werent sent by email. I also need an explanation on what is going to happen to all uncollected bibs & timing devices, and t-shirts. (Yes, the t-shirt is part of the attraction that made me sign up for this run) Are they gonna keep the tees for distribution as free gifts to their staff?

I hope SPH can reply to this ASAP.

seriously!

Postby ResRun on Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:16 pm

seriously?!??!?!

do you girls actually really expect all the organizers of whatever event you take part in to suit your very busy schedule for the collection?

it will not make any business sense at all, much less practical.
don't the organizers need to allocate manpower and space to work overtime just for all those who forgot about the collection? is it then fair to the organizers? the answer is obvious.

maybe next time they should just deliver it to our homes at our own specified time and day. and maybe then we need to pay say $150 for a single race?

for those who didn't receive an email about your details, weren't you concerned months ago? i didn't receive my confirmation email after signing up online either, but after writing in to the organizers, they responded promptly and the email was really in my spam folder.
i don't think the organizers can direct the mails to our spam folders, doesn't make sense. doesn't benefit them to do that either.

girls, if you cared enough to join something (whatever it is), care enough to keep track of it as well. just like if you win the lottery, i'm sure you'll care enough to collect your winnings before the deadline.

Postby tracydao on Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:59 pm

Hi ladies, I also forgot to collect the Tee, and the number bib. Im so sad that I cant join the competition tmr :( Well, I dont care abt the Tee or the bib or whatever, i just wanna join the run, that's all. I know its my fault for not collecting the stuff, but why cant I join the run? Is it some kind of punishment??? It's so ridiculous!!! Well, I'll just show up tmr anyway. For those who forgot to collect your number bib and Tee, can we meet up tmr morning (maybe around 6.30a.m at Suntec) to meet the organizer to ask for the reasonable reply? Pls email me if you wanna join me tracydao@gmail.com Thanks.

Hey ResRun had finally made some constructive comments! I'm quite impressed!

Yea actually posting the bibs would seriously be a good idea.
This suggestion could actually revolutionize the way runs are conducted!

IMO. Bibs could be mailed via snail mail, and tees could be packed into goodie bags instead.
