Looking forward to 20 Jul'08

Postby HG on Sat Apr 26, 2008 8:49 pm

I just registered for 10KM run.

I'm looking forward for SHAPE RUN'08 improvements. I hope it does provide sufficient water at the finishing line. I hated SHAPE RUN'07, due to Q-ing for water after running for 10KM run. Why am I loooking forward for 20 Jul'08, then ??? because I LOVE TO RUN and CHALLENG MYSELF.

Cheers
Herlena

psst... I also registered for 15KM passionrun on 8 Jun'08 at East Coast.

Hi HG...

Well since i have not been running for at least 4mths already..im planning to jog at least 2 to 3 times a week for a start...from there then slowly pick up my pace and eventually work on getting the best timing.On top of that on the days that im not jogging..i intend to hit the gym to gradually build up my stamina...come to think of it we got only
like 2mth plus to train...since this is my first ever time joining this kind of competition...i aim to make it a personal achievement...so im goin all out for this....

what abt u HG?

Hi Hem, its great that you have the planning in mind. Were you injured, that made you stoped running for 4mths ? I read in the runnersworld, some runners totally stop running for at least 1year, due to running injury. Gee..... I hope that I will not pass this injury stage.

1st of all, pardon me if I'm sounded showing off to you.

My 1st really 10KM racing was StandChart 2006, prior to this I jogged and gradually only managed to run for 5 KM. After this race, I'm addictive to running.

My training programmes since then are;

Sunday = Long Run (managed to run up to 21 KM), trying to up my distance as I want to try to run full marathon for 2008 Standchart.

Monday = cable weight lifting (I want to build muscle on my upper body, especially the arms) and do some stretching or gym ball exercises.

Tuesday = Run for 10 KM.

Wednesday = cable weight lifting and form rolling exercises or gym ball

Thursday = Run for 10 to 11 Km.

Friday = either run for 10 Km (depend on my legs conditions) or cable weight lifting.

Saturday = rest day.

I surf on www.runnerswold.com, it gives me alot of info on running stuff.

So, Hem, where do you run ?

Cheers

Hi HG,
What kind of strength training are you preparing for the full marathon. I have been reading up book on marathon but then mentally and physically.. I think I am not prepared yet. Actually I hope to run my first full marathon by end of the year - Standard Chartered Run but then really very dilemma.. How do I know that my training is sufficient to be ready to run a full marathon? My normal training is very fixed (Combination of running and cardio exercising but somehow it seem really insufficient.)

Hi Joey,

When I planed for my 1st 21Km on Standchart 2007, I wasnt prepared in term of finishing/completing the run. However, i trained myself to run at least 1time 19KM run out off my many runs.

So, my preparation for this full marathon standchart 2008, I'm planing to run at least 1time 30KM run out off my runs. As you can see on my weekly training I run 19 to 21 KM (my long run) every Sunday.
I read somewhere that if you can run for 21 KM (not stopping/walking),then you can run for full marathon (i'm not sure how true it is).

I also do strengh training (you can google in www.runnersworld.com), for abs and back. I also read Chi Running book, it's quite usefull.
